Why Most Campus Relationships End at the Gate

Have you ever wondered why most campus relationships don’t work? When you take a walk around campus especially on Fridays and during the weekdays mostly at night, you will see many students holding hands, cuddling in public and even goes to the extent of kissing, oblivious of the presence of other students. There is so much ‘’love in the air’’ to a point you feel like if you are single, you are an outcast. You question, torment your ego, see yourself as insignificant, inadequate and regard yourself as half human. It reaches a point where you feel ashamed to walk alone in campus and remain indoors the whole weekend to avoid emotional torture. But have you ever given these romance ideas a second thought? If love is in the air as the situation seems to dictate, then why are we facing so many divorce cases in Kenya nowadays? Why are so many families headed by single parents?
Eckhart Tolle, in his book “The Power of Now”, gives us an insight to this scary turn of events especially amongst people who are struggling with identity. He argues that majority of young people need partners to become whole and find fulfilment in their lives. He explains that most people pursue physical pleasures or various forms of psychological gratification because those things will make them happy or free them from a feeling of fear or deprivation. This is the bracket where most relationships in campus are built upon. A majority of students want to be with someone as a sign of prowess and earn respect amongst their peers. Even if (s)he doesn’t love the person, (s)he will keep the relationship running to avoid being called useless or unworthy of any girl. While boys are busy taking pride in the number of ladies conquered, the ladies on the other hand are looking for relationships where they can have fun. They look for financially well-off men to spoil them and take them to all those fancy places that they cannot afford with their meagre pocket money. This explains the death of most of the campus lady students under mysterious circumstances in the hands of wealthy men. The recent death of Moreen Chepkemei Kakuko, a first year student at Kenyatta University who is believed to have been drugged at a club in Thika Town and later pronounced dead upon reaching Kenyatta University’s Health Unit in the wee hours of the morning when her friends called in the health facilities as she couldn’t wake up.
Society expects men to be brave, confident and daring. These attributes are not owned by many campus male students. Fear of rejection is the main reason for this. This insecurity has pushed the young men to settle for less than the best. They would rather die than approach that campus queen for a steady relationship. However, to keep their ego from being bruised, they form “convenient relationships” with ‘friends’ that they have been introduced to and end up keeping them even with lack of emotional attachment. Ladies, in most cases are spoilt for choice and feel embarrassed when suddenly they begin to receive advances from their boyfriends’ circle of friends. The situation may worsen to a point of physical altercation over one lady yet there exists thousands of them in campus.

The campus and its environs provide a fertile ground for socialization but majority of students end up wasting this opportunity because of the fear factor and fear of rejection. In the process, they end up wasting ladies’ time, only to dump them at the end of their degree course.
Eckart Tolle warns that if students’ in campus continue to pursue relationships with an aim of being whole, then every intimate relationship they are involved in will be deeply flawed and ultimately dysfunctional in the long run. They will seem perfect on the outside for a while but with time, arguments, conflicts, emotional dissatisfaction and insecurity or worse physical confrontations may arise.
It is because of these casual handling of emotions, not only in campus but also in other areas of socialization that millions are now living alone or as single parents, unable to establish an intimate relationship or unwilling to repeat the insane drama of past relationships.

9 TIPS ON HOW TO BE A CHARMER!

Friday, 14 February 2014

Charmers are guys who have perfected the art of ensnaring women with their charming personality, gaining their trust and love in record time. Dating one is so exciting, as they bring out the crazy edge in you, make you do exhilarating stuff, forget all your principles and suddenly all you want is to live on the fast lane. To them dating is more of a sport, some do it for financial benefits and some just for the fun of it. The following are 9 tips on how to be a charmer
1)   Be eloquent
The first thing you notice about a charmer is their mastery in words, a good sense of humour and eloquence; wordsmiths to be precise. They always say the right thing at the right time as if reading your mind. These guys are so good that they can even sell to you the sand beneath your feet and convince you it is a very rare mineral, using sweet words to charm their way into your life and talk themselves out of any trouble they get into. If you are determined to completely break up with such a guy then the greatest mistake you could ever do is listen to what they have to say, trust me his words are more addictive than cocaine!
2)    Keep fit
Physical traits are an added advantage to a charmer, so dude you are on the right track hitting the gym for an athletic body just like the green-hooded guy in the new TV series ‘Arrow’ that girls have been drooling over. With the increasing hype about fitness and increasing levels of obesity a six-pack ,cute eyes and infectious smile will keep you way ahead in the pack.
3)  Intelligent and well informed on current affairs
Unlike in the 19th century when the most eligible bachelor was the fearless, battle-hardened chap who had most parts of his body covered with scars and less fair skin, our 21st century women are turned on by intelligence, thanks to Bill Gates and the other Silicon Valley big boys. A charmer will effortlessly converse about the increasing dominance of China’s influence on African economies, how a fibre cable works, how the oil is explored in Ng’amia one wells up in Turkana to what is happening in the Nairobi Stock Exchange market. At last, the world is becoming more accommodative to the nerdy guys!
4)   Have good sense of fashion
To get into the league of charmers, you need to have a good sense of fashion; well-fitting clothes, a hair cut that suits your face, a few accessories to complement your look and invest in good cologne. On the subject of fragrance, please avoid the strong scents that entrepreneurs of Somali origin hawk in town. It is okay to be clean but not too tidy lest she thinks you are gay or suffering from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Remember only to don what complements your look; don’t acquire aviator glasses when they make you look like a housefly!
5)Speak less and listen more
Charmers prey mostly on careers women, high achievers, fiercely independent, lonesome and those who have had a screwed up life because they make a good challenge. What the charmer does is to simply listen to the horrid details of the traumatizing experience she has gone through, offer a shoulder to lean on and share with her little details of his life that makes the lady feel trusted. Cardinal rule, “speak less and listen more’’
6)   Little public display of affection
If there is one thing I know that drives girls crazy, it’s some little Public Display of Affection (P.D.A); hold her hand in town, introduce her to your friends as the number one, kiss her in public and if you argue dude go right down your knee asking for forgiveness especially in crowded places like around the National Archives when everyone is watching. If she had any doubts about your feelings for her this would shatter them all. Guys club-hopping and binge drinking all through Friday night does not pass for a date, take her to a nice restaurant; where it’s just the two of you.
7)  Swallow your ego
The downside of being a charmer is that you cannot afford to have a big ego, remember your catch is a rare jewel, a princess and your sole reason for living is to make her happy. You should make her feel like she is the greatest object of your desire that however much you try to leave you cannot because she has your heart. It helps when you expose some of your weaknesses to her since ladies like nurturing things, she will feel you need her to make you whole. If you always play the super-independent Knight-in-Shining Armour she will wonder whether she has any role to play in your life and leave!
8)   Always say what she wants to hear
Whoever said honesty is the best policy clearly wasn’t a charmer, most of the times you will be forced to keep your true thoughts to yourself. “Honey, do I look great in this outfit?” she asks, brother even when you think she looks like a scarecrow  go ahead and tell her how awesome she is and convince her you are totally into her new look. When it comes to sensitive matters such as weight and the likes always say what she wants to hear.
9)   Exploit her emotions
For those who do it for the money you have to come up with brilliant business ideas that have the potential of transforming humanity and explain to her all you need is financing to make it possible or come up with a story of your sickly mom who is urgently in need of very expensive drugs and that’s what has been depressing you for the last few days. Since most women reason with their hearts she might as well give you the pin to all her ATM’s.
The greatest problem with being a charmer is that every new day  guys who are younger, better looking and slicker are coming up and soon enough your reigning days will be over, so brother you better work hard for your own money to get by in old age when even a shot of Botox cannot make you look younger.

Disclaimer: not all guys who portray some or all the above traits are charmers

9 SIGNS A LADY REALLY LIKES YOU

Monday, 6 January 2014

Nothing scares men like being rejected by a lady they are very attracted to. That’s why most guys choose to keep silent about their feelings. To minimize the chances of getting rejected, there is need to check for telltale signs and find out whether the attraction is mutual. The following are 9 signs a lady really likes you.
1)   Time Factor
Does she go out of her way to create time for you despite having a tight schedule? Does she find an excuse to meet you a lot more often these days? If the answer to the above questions is yes then you have a chance. Ladies like spending quality time with guys they really like. If she chooses to spend the weekend with you on campus instead of going home or out with friends then she certainly likes you.
2)     Body language
Does she hug tightly with both hands or give you the one-hand hug like you are suffering from leprosy? If a lady really likes you she will cuddle, hug for longer and spend hours gazing into your eyes. When you meet her on the campus streets she flashes you the secret smile. She will also go an extra mile to look great whenever meeting you.
Next time you meet her, suddenly grab and pull her to stand very close to you, then check her body reactions. If she doesn’t jerk away and instead stands right there, pupils dilated anticipating your next move, go ahead and seal the deal with a kiss.

3)  Jealousy
It’s rather strange how ladies are attracted to guys who have other gorgeous women in their lives but cannot stand the idea of sharing a guy they really like. If she demands you treat her special and different from all other girls in your life or looks sullen when you as much as hold another girl’s hand then she is so into you.
When you are out hanging with your boys and the lady across the room likes you, your eyes will lock more than once. If she is in the company of a guy she will be apt to hold him tighter while checking to see your reaction; see whether you are getting jealous.

4)  Enjoys your company.
You know a lady has the hots for you if she immensely enjoys your company. She laughs at your jokes, even the silly ones. When she is emotionally down, you are the first person she calls and by the time your conversation ends her spirits are lifted. She also asks you to accompany her to social events where she flaunts you to her friends, introduces you to her siblings and takes pictures with you. Spending two hours with her feels likes two minutes leaving both of you wanting more.
5)  Confides in you
If a lady really likes you she will entrust you with intimate details about her life, family and work troubles and also reveal her fears to you. She will value your opinion on a wide spectrum of issues ranging from her career to world economics. You are also the first person she breaks the great news to, like winning a scholarship. You connect with her so well that your conversations feel like heart-to-heart whispers.

6)   How her friends treat you
How her close friends treat you indicate precisely how she feels about you. If they enjoy hanging out with you, excuse themselves out to give the two of you some privacy or jokingly claim how the two of you make a great couple, then she is absolutely feeling the vibe. However, if they seem to look bored whenever you are around or ignore you like a lizard on the wall, do yourself a favor; run away and never look back.

7)  Drop some hints
If a lady is interested in getting hitched to you, she will readily tell you that she is single, highlight the traits she finds most attractive about you and even inquire about your relationship status. She may also let you know of her upcoming birthday or remind you of Valentine’s Day and teasingly ask what gift you are planning to get her. Times have changed, now the modern woman will promptly declare her interest in you and find out whether the feeling is mutual.
8)  Try make you a better man
If a lady feels you are an eligible mate, she will try to talk you out of your destructive habits, complain about your untidy room and talk you into taking your studies seriously. If you are the kind of guy who feels he is smartly dressed when in matching socks she will subtly hint on the perfect haircut for your face and attire. The baseline is, a lady who really likes you tries to make you a better man. Who knows, she might be grooming you to be her hubby.

9)  Treats you special
A lady who really likes you would sometimes bend her rules and do things she would never do with other guys.  She will want to spend days she considers important with you. If she douses herself with you cologne, left a tooth brush at your place or has your shirt which she sleeps in every night then you have a chance with her. If she is always by your side when you are sick, depressed or in trouble, look no further; she is unquestionably meant for you.

Love is a beautiful thing and life too short. If you find someone who makes you happy do not let your fears stop you from taking a leap of faith and ride this roller coaster we call love.
Wish you a love-filled year!
